The Science Behind Superfoods

Why You Should Add Them to Your Diet

Superfoods have been a buzz in the health and wellness community for some time, but what exactly makes them so “super”? These enriched foods are packed with vitamins and minerals that have shown to have numerous nutritional benefits. Here is a closer look at the science behind superfoods and why you should consider adding them to your diet.

What are superfoods?

Superfoods are whole foods that are highly rich in nutrients, such as vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and fiber. Primarily plant-based, these foods can come from various sources including fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds and grains.

Why are superfoods important?

A balanced diet is essential for overall good health. Superfoods are essential for a healthy diet because they offer high levels of nutrients that our bodies need to function, but can’t produce on their own.

Blueberries, for example, are loaded with antioxidants and promote heart health, bone strength, glowing skin and lower blood pressure. At Beyond Juicery + Eatery, try the Anna’s or the Acai Berry Lit for your blueberry boost!

Kale is high in vitamin K, which is important for bone health and to aid in avoiding blood clotting. Kale is one of the salad bases we offer at Beyond, and the Hummus + Beet Bowl is always an option to get your kale fix.

Quinoa is a complete protein, meaning it contains all nine essential amino acids that our bodies need for growth and repair. This is why we have quinoa on some of our signature salads, like the Strawberry + Almond Bowl.

It’s important to remember that no one food can provide you with all of the essential nutrients your body needs and it’s important to eat a wide, well-balanced diet of fruits, vegetables, proteins and grains.

How to incorporate superfoods into your diet?

Adding superfoods into your diet is easier than you might think. One of the simplest ways to incorporate them is by adding them to your smoothies or juices. For example, you could blend blueberries, kale, banana and almond milk into one highly packed superfood smoothie. Chia seeds can also be added for an extra boost of fiber.

Another great way to incorporate superfoods is to stop by your local Beyond Juicery + Eatery. From customizable smoothies and juices to protein-packed wraps and salads, each menu item is loaded with fresh, nutrient-dense ingredients that will keep your body going all day long.

Our new Mango Passion Bowl is packed with better-for-you ingredients like blue spirulina – a superfood that supports anti-inflammatory properties and a great source of antioxidants. Launching April 3, the bowl also features honey GF granola, almond butter, mango, strawberry, banana, coconut and a passion fruit drizzle.
